Officially opened in July of 1986, the United Scottish Cultural Centre was built by 14 prominent Scottish societies as a place to gather together and share a common bond; the love of Scottish music and dancing, and Scottish culture in general. Those founding societies were:
An Comunn Gaidhealach
BC Highland Dancing Association
BC Pipers Association
Caithness Association
Gaelic Society of Vancouver
Glasgow and District Association
Moray Nairn and Banff Association
The Royal Scottish Country Dance Society
St. Andrew's & Caledonian Society
Sons of Scotland Benevolent Association
Lord Tweedsmuir Camp
Glamis Camp
Glengary Camp
District 16
The Vancouver Ladies' Pipe Band Association
While a few of those societies since have ceased to exist, those that remain continue the legacy of supporting the Scottish Cultural Centre as a hub of activity for the preservation of Scottish cultural interests - music, dance, language - which now reaches out into the broader community to provide an outstanding venue for groups of any culture or interest. Weddings, concerts, ballroom dancing, seminars. With three floors of rooms of various size, and the ability to accommodate from 10 to 400 people, there's always something happening at the Scottish Cultural Centre.
